September 8, Citizen's Academy, sponsored by the Orleans District Attorney's Office
Free--Limited enrollment
This Citizen's Academy is a 16-hour block of instruction designed to educate the public about operations, programs, and staff of the DA's office.
Sessions start Tuesday, September 8th. Participants will meet 2 hours, once a week for 8 weeks and must commit to attend at least 6 of 8 sessions.
Classes will be in the DA's offices, 619 S. White Street, 4th floor, Grand Jury room
6 pm - 8 pm, light supper.

August 21-30--Katrina 10--Week of Action
Gulf Coast Rising is collaborating with numerous organizations "to coordinate over 13 events from August 23-August 30 in multiple locations from Gulfport to New Orleans. The Katrina 10 Week of Action represents a powerful coming together of many organizations dedicated to lifting up the leadership and resistance of people on the frontlines" of the global climate crisis. Gulf Coast Rising "demands a just transition away from extractive industries, discriminatory policies, and unjust practices that hinder equitable disaster recovery and impede the development of sustainable communities."

Jan. 19, 2014, Sunday: Northshore Black Elected Officials Coalition & Associates, "Justice Sunday Initiative"
The Northshore Black Elected Officials Coalition & Associates asks that all churches in St. Tammany, Tangipahoa, and Washington parishes present a justice message on that Sunday. The coalition's goals are to create/support parenting workshops and reentry programs to support successful reintegration of the formerly incarcerated into the community. The workshops are to be launched in February 2014. The group also plans to meet with sheriffs, district attorneys and the Clerk of Court to advocate for more diversion programs for non-violent offenders.
